Ruby Moon Stables

Pulling up the driveway you pass under a tall iron sign, the gates already open ahead of you. 'Ruby Moon' the cursive iron had read, your eyes scanning out then over the far reaching plains. It seems the earthen tone fencing travels for miles, herds of horses galloping and grazing as though they had no idea of the others existence. There must be hidden divides separating the herds but you see none, they all look free.

Turning in the car seat you can see to the left smaller fields, many mares nipping at new spring grass as their foals play. Two large barns appear off behind the stables, their purpose not yet know but perhaps are indoor arenas? As you park and exit you are greeted by your guide, a young riding instructor who tells you that the owner is sadly not in that day but rather at a show. She will however, give you the tour you were promised.

The house to the right is shaded by a grand willow tree, a pond with a stream flowing out into the onward pastures. A cat that looks as though it should be in a zoo sits watching the koi, wondering if getting her Paws wet is worth the fish.
"That's Nepthys...Miss Aurora's Savannah cat. She's very tame so don't be alarmed." The instructor assures you.

As you tour the grounds you are able to take it all in, two barns close to the large, old style farm house you saw out front house mares, foals and a few show geldings and boarders. One of the barns is in fact for housing horses, that the stud barn where the stallions are kept and a more controlled breeding environment is available.

The other barn is for riding, a full indoor heated arena with some stands and a full tack and wash room. An office resides upstairs with all the books on all the horses as well as the booking openings for breeding.

The stables are a full working ranch, pastures and small paddocks all over the 500 acre property for retirees to weanling's. As you head back to the car you are able to see something you missed before, a garden that made the drive circular that holds a plaque in the center. It reads: L'esprit du cheval est inégalé. Rien ne peut fonctionner plus rapidement, sauter plus haut, ou monter plus majestueux que cela esprit analogue.
Confused by the french you look to your guide who smiles.
"Loosely translated it says: The spirit of the horse is unmatched.
Nothing can run faster, jump higher, or soar more majestically than that kindred spirit." She states, a smile lighting your face.

"We offer rooms for visitors if you do not wish to leave and guest stables for those who brought their horses...we do hope that you have enjoyed your day."

Located in the hills of Ridgway, Colorado we have been owned and operated by the Lewis family for three generations! Expanding over 200 acres the farm even extends into the mountainous regions where a small cabin is kept and maintained and a close family friend. The stable boasts a large variety of horses capable of almost every sport imaginable.
Our current owner, Miss Aurora, took over the farm when she was 21 and fresh out of college. Unfortunately the sudden and tragic death of her parents brought her home to run the farm and her goals of becoming a veterinarian were lost. However she doesn't regret returning home and since then loved every minute of her work. She admits that, as tragic as the circumstances were, she doesn't regret a moment of running the farm she and her father both grew up on.
